Don’t lose your mind when I tell you that I really liked the hot dog at American Coney Island. Don’t do it. It’s a simple hot dog with a snap and a steamed bun with raw onions and chili. Nothing over the top. Nothing crazy spread over my simple hot dog. That is what makes it special. Also, I love that people from all over the country that have stopped into the Detroit location get excited about getting a little taste of home right on Fremont street.

What to Expect at American Coney Island Downtown Las Vegas:
The spot is small with an entrance from The D Hotel and from Fremont Street. A counter, a few tables and another place to stand while taking the 35 seconds to devour your hot dog. Grab your dog and stand outside and watch the action on Fremont street. This is the perfect snack spot.
How’s the food at American Coney Island Downtown Las Vegas?
If you like a decent hot dog you’ll really enjoy American Coney Island. However, try not to think about the $4 price tag. It might make you a little crazy. It does feel expensive especially when you squeeze the entire hot dog into your mouth in less than a minute.
Price aside this is a quality hot dog with the snap of a natural casing dog that packs plenty of flavor. The soft bun reminds me of one of my favorite hot dog carts or of the snack stand in my little league baseball days. It is the ultimate comfort/nostalgia foods.
Order the chili fries and you’ll get a little extra chili on some adequate potatoes.
Nothing gourmet but all good enough to warrant a visit. Some people will tell you this is the best hot dog in Las Vegas but I think you need to have the Detroit connection for that. If you are in Downtown Las Vegas and the night has gone deep into the morning walk over and have one chili dog before you retire to your room. It’s open 24 hours and frankly who doesn’t want to go to sleep with a full belly?
