A Taste of Cuba at Casa Fuente

To me the idea of sitting in a lounge with a good smoke and a great drink makes me feel like Hemingway in the living room at La Finca. I can almost feel my fingers tapping the keys on a keyboard belting out a tale about the Gulf Stream and big fish needing desperately to dance across the water attached to a line that would mean the end of their majestic swim.

Casa Fuente in the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace has the lounge, the cigars, and the mojitos. If only I could move a typewriter into a personal space for me to write about the great people watching in the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace. Instead, I’ll sit with a cigar and ponder a second or even a third drink. I’ll down the daiquiris much like Hemingway’s Thomas Hudson would have while waiting for my wife to window shop in the mall.

What it’s like at Casa Fuente Las Vegas in the Forum Shops?
There is this feeling I get when the hint of a good cigar moves past my sense of smell and Cuban music is playing in the background. Soon, I need a mojito and of course, you know I’ll be asking my wife about our next trip to South Florida. I can almost feel the humidity of Ocean Dr. and smell the fried pork coming from Collins Ave. as I sit in the lobby of the Avalon Hotel.

The inside bar is quaint and immerses you in the rich smell of tobacco. If you love a great cigar you’ll be able to sit at the bar and nurse a drink while slowly enjoying an Opus X. If you want more of an open-air feeling sit in the patio that looks out onto the Forum Shops and take in a little of Las Vegas with your Mojito.

How are the drinks at Casa Fuente Las Vegas in the Forum Shops?
Here is the big surprise. It’s not uncommon to head into a cigar bar and be faced with mediocre drinks to go with good cigars. However, Casa Fuente in Las Vegas does the little things right and that includes putting together an above average cocktail list. Ask for a daiquiri with no sugar and they’ll place it in front of you perfect and crisp. Frolick in a mojito and your taste buds will linger through 2 drinks and beg you for a third.

What drinks you should try at Casa Fuente Las Vegas in the Forum Shops:

  • The Classic Mojito – Cigar and a Mojito and you might as well be on vacation. Look at the perfectly muddled mint and you’re sure someone behind the bar cares about the craft of a perfect cocktail. The balance in the drink coupled with the right cigar and it is a match made in heaven…well, the Caribbean Sea.
  • Hemingway’s Epitaph – Put Papa’s name on anything and I’ll try it but you should because rum, bitters and ginger ale have never tasted so good or transported you so far in one glass.
  • Spicy Lover – Tequila people will enjoy their blue agave with a touch of fire. Tabasco plays with the cucumber in the perfect combination of island fresh and south of the border spice.

How do you choose the right cigar at Casa Fuente Las Vegas?
Simple. Walk in and don’t be shy. Ask a question or two or three. Customer service is key and the informative employees at Casa Fuente will ask you important questions about price, flavors and general likes and dislikes. You do not have to be a cigar aficionado to have a good time. You’ll get an education in cigars and you’ll be paired with the perfect smoke.
